Good Posture – Yoga Poses For Eyelash Extension Technicians

How many of you were practicing your posture in front of the mirror to get that iconic supermodel catwalk when you were a kid? I still remember how I was influenced by the top models’ catwalk on the stage when I was a little girl. The way they walk down is iconic and so elegant. Besides the way they walk, their strong posture is the key to their positive body language and phenomenal supermodel runaway.

Sitting up straight makes us appear taller, slimmer and more confident. Likewise sitting with a good posture increases oxygen flow in our body, reduces stress level and is a great way to prevent spine-related pains. As most lash technicians know (and feel) sitting over a portable massage table for hours can contribute to tightness in the hips and legs. In addition, leaning forward can cause neck, shoulder and back pain and discomfort. Practicing yoga can bring lots of benefits into eyelash extensions stylists, eyebrow artist and any other people from various work area who sits on a chair for long hours.

Sitting Is The New Smoking

Our body was made to move, so when we sit too long in the same position causes some health problems like chronic back pain and poor posture. If we consider the fact that the average person today is sitting more than 8 hours per day we wouldn’t overestimate the saying of ‘Sitting Is The New Smoking’. According to Nilofer Merchant, a corporate director and former Autodesk executive sitting have become the smoking of this generation. She has a point- Doesn’t she?

Here is the yoga come to your help! Poor posture can result in chronic pain and work-related injuries which may end up with an involuntary career pause. The bright side is you can prevent neck, shoulder, back and hip pains by practicing some yoga postures between your clients.

Yoga Poses For Your Neck

While you are sitting on your chair lengthen your upper body. Your knees should be 90-degree angle your feet should be flat on the floor. Gently pull your head through your right shoulder with your right hand’s help. You’ll feel your neck muscles are stretching. Maintain this posture for at least 15 seconds and repeat on the opposite side.

While you are sitting (or you can stand up) extend your right arm up to the sky, lengthen your top arm over your ear and your palm should face down. As same as the previous yoga pose your knees should be 90-degree angle your feet should be flat on the floor. Maintain this posture for at least 15 seconds and repeat on the opposite side.

Yoga Pose For Your Shoulders and Back

If sitting in a chair, ground down through both feet. If you are standing up make sure to ground your feet into the floor and place your hips in a neutral position. Lift the right arm up to the sky then bend your elbow and reach your right fingers down your back. Wrap the left arm behind your back, left fingers reaching up towards the right fingers. Move the hands close to each other. Maintain this posture for at least 15 seconds and repeat change the position of your arms.

Yoga Pose For Your Shoulders and Hips

Keep your position on your chair and cross your left leg over the right. Hook the top of the foot behind the lower right calf. Once your legs are in the position stretch your arms straight forward and parallel to the floor. Cross your arms so that the right arm is above and the left arm is below, then bend your elbows. Raise the forearms perpendicular to the floor. Maintain this posture for at least 15 seconds and repeat change the position of your arms and legs.

Stand upright with your inner feet parallel. Keeping your legs completely straight, exhale and bend forward from your hip joints, moving your torso and head as one unit. Maintain this posture for at least 15 seconds and with an inhale, swing your torso and head as a single unit back to upright.

As Cosmopolitan Academy we strongly recommend incorporating these simple but effective yoga exercises into your daily routine. It is quite common among lash artists several career-shortening injuries that can arise from improper seating and wrong posture.
